22, Dec. 09 Leeds bus drivers, take new offer.  No more strike threat.  Amen. No details given to general public.

17. Dec.09 Leeds bus strike for this Saturday has been cancelled. Buses will run as normal on Saturday, including football matchday specials.
Union members will vote on a proposed pay offer on Monday. If the offer is not accepted, further strikes are planned for 23 and 24 December.

What did Leeds bus drivers turn down, that union big wigs liked? Management offered £150 cash payment before Christmas for all 1,025 bus drivers, a reduction in a driver's working week without loss of pay!!  Plus a 2.5 per cent pay increase from April 2010.
A free skeleton service will run on major routes.

11, Dec. 09 Friday, new offer on table, first Saturday strike is tomorrow.  Members will be balloted today, results will be available later today.

9, Dec.09 Last ditch effort talks under way at Leeds Metro.

8, Dec. 09  Sorry folks, looks like the strike is on for Saturday, 12th.  First will run a skeleton service. Managers and union will meet up this Thursday.  Union members rejected the deal.

3, Dec. 09  Thursday, next Monday's bus strike, called off. Pay offer accepted by union. Ballot to be held 8, December, by union members to seal the deal.

11/28/09  Leeds bus strike, is on, only services within the city would be affected. Services that begin their journeys from outside Leeds, such as Bradford, Halifax and York, will still run in and out of the city as normal.

Monday, 7, December, 09 and  Saturday, Leeds Metro strike, 12, 19, December. Yellow bus school services within the city would probably carry on. Parking will be tight, prepare for extra traffic, leave earlier.


11/24/09 Leeds bus strike, threat by bus drivers.  Balloting today of 1,000 Leeds bus drivers. Vote due in tomorrow.  Possible strike dates, tentative due to ballot. Monday, 7, December, 09 and  Saturday, 12, 19, December, 09

Why:- Workers offered zero percent pay raise, First bus company made profit of 30million pounds leading up to September, 09. Lowest paid in West Yorkshire.

Union, members unhappy and will call for industrial action.

First Bus wants to keep workers at same salary as last year and not lay any workers off.

Leeds bus strike, some of the routes to be affected:- Moor Grange-Whinmoor, Middleton-Roundhay Park, Seacroft Bus Station-Chapeltown-Pudsey,  Wharfedale and Aireborough. This will be a major inconvenience.  Better dust off the bike, arrange a ride and get your walking shoes out.  Don't forget the brolley. Allow extra time streets will be packed.
